Choosing Jane Iredale Foundation for Asian and Black skin

If you're an Asian or Afro-Caribbean woman you'll understand finding a foundation to suit your skin colour can be difficult, due to lack of colour range but there are a few key points of advice that should help to determine your choice

While the shelves seem to be piled high with all manner of powders and foundations promising even coverage, light-reflecting pigments, illuminating finishes and more, the chances of you finding an exact match for your skin tone are slim. Jane Iredale make up has 24 shades so you will find one that matches your skin perfectly!

What to look for-
Asian women need to look out for foundation that has yellow undertones. These will enhance the natural colour of the Asian skin tone. Make-up for black or Caucasian skin has pink and red undertones so look out for neutral or pink tones. Pink/Neutral tones are unsuitable for the Asian complexion resulting in a look that is either too orange or chalky and ghost-like.

Look out for the following foundation shades in Jane Iredale Pure Pressed Base , Jane Iredale Amazing Base or Jane Iredale Liquid Minerals :

Asian Skins- Golden Glow, Riviera, Latte, Autumn, Caramel, Fawn.

Black Skins- Terra, Chestnut, Mink, Maple, Butternut, Coffee, Teakwood.

Pitfalls to avoid-
Selecting the right colour foundation is about choosing a shade that is as close to your natural skin tone as possible. Trying to darken or lighten the skin tone with foundation will only result in a mask-like finish. It is better to add colour with Blusher or Bronzer in specific areas to add contour to the face

Where's the best place to test it?
-
The best place to test Jane Iredale foundation is on the jaw line. The skin tone on the hand and neck could differ to that on the face and it is essential that the make-up blends in well around the jaw line so as not to leave a noticeable line.

Covering an uneven complexion-
Jane Iredale foundation is good coverage of imperfections, as it will not appear too thick. In more serious cases where extra coverage is required, it is best to use Jane Iredale Amazing base with a slightly damp flocked sponge and a concealer such as Disappear rather than a heavy liquid foundation. The whole look can then be sealed using a spritz of one of our facial sprays like D20.
